Always and Forever E-mail

I woke up this morning feeling tired. I knew I needed to get my energy up so I decided to turn on some music. And when I need to get my groove going, I turn Barry White on.

With a cup of coffee in hand, I began to dance around my living room, connecting to my soul. It felt soooo good as I absorbed the morning. I wasn’t ready for this time to be over, so I sat down to take the music in a little more. That’s when I thought about my dad. He passed away just over 16 years ago at the very young age of 54.

Thoughts of Daddy and me dancing at my first wedding flashed in my mind. We began our father/daughter dance with a slow song and segued into some funky tunes. That’s one of the things I loved about Dad the most: he knew how to be silly and get his groove on. I have so many good memories of him. What’s interesting is that I’ll go months at a time where I don’t think of Dad much. And then there are mornings like today where I miss him terribly. So I sat and cried for a moment reminiscing about him. That’s when Marvin Gaye came on, singing “Let’s Get It On.” I thought, “Well, that’s my cue to get up and move.” But instead, I sat there listening a little more.

My Dog's Dilemma E-mail

I have a little Maltese. Her name is Squirt and she is almost 13 years old. Last week I noticed that every time she stepped onto our travertine stone floor, her feet would flail as if she were skating across ice and then she would immediately go SPLAT, belly-flopping onto the floor. All I could think was, “Oh my gosh! Is this old age for her? What is going on?”

I left town for a few days, only to discover upon my return earlier this week that Squirt’s dilemma had worsened. Now she wouldn’t walk across the floor at all! She would just stand on the rug, staring at the stone floor! That’s when I decided to take the bull by the horns and figure out what was going on with her.

I picked up Squirt and stared at her feet. Lo and behold, her nails were so long that they curled underneath her little paws. I had no idea that the groomer at the dog salon had failed to trim her nails the last time I took her there. No wonder Squirt kept falling!

I immediately clipped her nails. “Surely,” I thought, “THIS will do the trick. She won’t feel as if she’ll go sailing across the floor anymore.”

What is Your Computer Telling You? E-mail

Last week in The Enlightened Mom Global Healing Circle, some of the ladies were talking about the issues they were having with their computers. One shared that she was struggling with the man who was doing some work on hers. She didn’t quite trust him. I invited her to look at the situation by going within and ask what the belief was that was being reflected back to her. She discovered a false belief that said, “People will take advantage of me.” As I guided her to clean up this belief, this woman had a wonderful healing. All because of an issue with her computer!

Another mom shared that she had a huge AHA when being told that that she was past the 21 days allotted to return her computer. She didn’t like it and wanted to get a different one. She felt very frustrated with the situation, but decided to continuously send love to the situation. Thankfully, her prayers were answered, despite originally being told that it was too late to return her computer. She let go of her limiting beliefs of what she could have, and stood in faith, and was able to return her computer, even though it was past the return date. Woo hoo!

Listen to Your Gut E-mail

Don’t you hate those moments when all of the sudden you hear yourself saying, “Darn! I should have listened to my gut”? Have you ever asked yourself why you don’t listen?

The reason we don’t tend to pay attention to what our gut is trying to tell us is that, as kids, we take on beliefs that our parents, teachers, grandparents, and adults in general know better than us. Our parents, especially, think they know best. Because most parents live by a set of rules of how life “must be,” they tend to impress those rules on us. So we get conditioned early on to make others the authorities of our lives and, thus, disregard our intuition.

When my girls were younger, we were visiting with some friends. There was a bit of a chill outside, but by no means was it cold. My friend insisted that her kids bundle up to stay warm. However, their coats were quickly shed as they jumped on their trampoline. “Put your coats on!” the mom screamed at her kids.

Their response went something like this, “Mom! We’re burning up. It’s not cold out here!”

The sweat running down their cheeks said the rest. But the mom wouldn’t listen. “Put those coats on or else you are coming in!”

How Do You Label People? E-mail

How do you label the people around you? Think about your kids, your spouse, your boss or your friends. Do you call them difficult, lazy, playful, mean, shy, or any other adjective you can come up with?

We often assign labels to people because they either inspire us or “light us up.” These people are guides, asking us to look at ourselves. God is trying to get our attention.

My daughter Mackenzie used to have a boyfriend that inspired me. Every time he walked through the door, I smiled. There was “something” about him. I had two labels for him: “playful” and “light.” He inspired me to bring more playfulness to my life.

If you are giving someone a positive label, you are either being guided to allow yourself to have more of this in your life, or God’s asking you to see yourself with the same loving eyes as you see the person who makes you smile.

I believe God is also tapping on your shoulder when you label someone negatively. This person “lights you up.” This is a different kind of “light” than I described for Mackenzie’s boyfriend. When you are “lit up” by someone, you feel irritated or frustrated. This person pushes your buttons. But this isn’t a bad thing. Once again, God is trying to get your attention. You are being drawn within to face your judgments and fears. God is asking you to love yourself.
